Hello! My name is Sebastiaan Zijp, I’m a father of two wild boys, husband to the love of my life, musician, silly goose, and mountain man.
I have walked many career paths in my life. I have been a chef, a farmer, a teacher, a Japanese gardener, and now a woodworker. Throughout this evolution, I have always been drawn to creative expression through working with my hands and with the products of the land.
I work from my woodworking shop on my family’s homestead in Madison County, NC.

Why White Oak Creek?
White Oaks are a strong and important tree in the forest of North Carolina where we live. They are a keystone species playing a crucial role in maintaining the health of the forest and supporting wildlife. They have long lifespans and ability to withstand hard weather.
The creek through the woods by our home is white oak creek, so a tribute to the place we’ve lived, loved and grown in for almost 15 years.
Farmer Oak, a character from the book “Far from the Madding Crowd” by Thomas Hardy, was a strong, loyal and kind man. He showed up with a helping hand and ready to do the hard work that was needed in whatever situation. When we had our two sons, we decided to give them both the middle name of Oak. With the hope that it stands as a good reminder and guidepost, for them to become strong, kind, helpful, resilient and sturdy men.
This name is a dedication to my boys as well as the place that I have grown and loved over the last 15 years.
